The Chalon Issues
1855 - 1873

by
Tom Lee and John Watts

When starting to take the collection of Chalons more seriously, I was visiting David Holmes of Auckland City Stamps (ACS) and Campbell Patterson (CP) and he lent me a hard copy of the Lee & Watts book.  I found the book an amazing resource and could really relate to its approach and style.  I had just bought the Bob Odenweller book too, so had two amazing resources at my disposal.  But the Lee & Watts book was a loaner, so I tried to track down a copy for myself - and I couldn't find one.

Further enquiry led to the discovery that there were no hardback versions printed by John and Tom, and in fact the book I had in my possession was one of only 50 printed by Len Jury to sell on to his customers.  The book had blown out to 440+ pages during writing and so to keep the cost down for the buyer they decided to sell it on CD-Rom (remember those).  Fast forward and you can't even buy a computer with one now!

I was very concerned that such a rich book (5+ years in the making) would be lost to the stamp fraternity.  I made contact with John (Tom has passed) and offered to make the book available to everyone via the internet.  He didn't hesitate - he's a great man interested not in the profit from his endeavours but in achieving a goal of his own (the book) and helping people enjoy their hobby more.

Below is the book. You will need to put your email in to access the book.  Please don't worry - it's for us to track user numbers and statistics etc.  Your details will never be passed to anyone else or in fact even used by us.  'The Collection' doesn't sell anything and only sends updates to those who sign up for them.  You have our word.  Once you start - click on full screen and you're away.

The book is awesome.  You'll enjoy it.  Money back guarantee.  We also use excerpts from the book throughout the descriptions of the stamps, so full credit to John and Tom and massive thanks for letting us all have access.
